An Introduction and Other Niceties

Hi all! Welcome to my blog! Seriously…I’ve always wanted to say that. Thank you for being here!

For my first blog post [ever!] I’d like to keep it simple by introducing myself, the Aisling brand, and outline what I plan for this little corner of the internet going forward.

I’ve been obsessed with yarn since 2012 when one of my best friends taught me how to crochet a simple flower motif. I had learned to make a chain stitch as a little girl, but never knew how to actually start a row outside of that. I have a vivid memory sitting on my childhood bed with an old aluminum hook and a skein of Red Heart Super Saver in maroon, furiously chaining away in hopes that if I crocheted fast enough, somehow it would turn into something other than a 200yd snake of yarn. So, thank you Michaela, for pulling me out of the depths of endless chain despair and into the wonderful world of crocheting. I owe you one!

After a few years of dabbling in crochet, I taught myself to knit via YouTube videos and many cups of coffee. Then came embroidery, punch needling, and weaving. I don’t think there’s a fiber art out there I wouldn’t enjoy, honestly. All of this making and obsessing over new crafts led up to the start of my design career, and while I began this business under a different name, Aisling Studio didn’t come into full fruition until 2021 after a lot of heartache and a bit of soul searching.

After the loss of my sweet dad in 2020, I realized I had an aching void in my heart to learn more about our heritage and connect with those roots somehow. To connect with him. Months of researching into my genealogy helped me track my ancestors back to the 1500’s in a small Irish village, and the rest is, quite literally, history. I won’t bore you with all of the details, but learning more about my family and our origins healed something within me. Shortly after, I rebranded my business to Aisling Studio, to honor my late father and weave his memory into everything I create from that day forward.

My vision for the Aisling Studio blog is to cultivate a welcoming space where I can let my creativity flourish. I’ll be posting my current projects and original knitting/crochet patterns, feature other talented designers from the community, host the occasional Make Along, and basically share anything I am enjoying in that current moment. Tools of the trade. Books. Music. YARN…definitely lots of yarn. It’ll be a fun time, I promise!
